Crappy for curve.  Not enough movement in my opinion.  But they all can't be John Tudor.

Totally not.  He's the only lefty on that staff....he's one of the best RP in the business...

You can pitch to me using Willie any day.    ;D

I've always gotten good results with Willie's changeup for some reason.  His rating isn't that great, but the lefties seem to pitch better for me.  ;)

And yes, there is only ONE Johnny Tudor.  And he is the fucking man.

Side note: for some reason, when I was really young, I used to think Larry Herndon and Willie Hernandez were the same player, like it was an ironman player.  Very strange.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

Willie is the most feared reliever in dee-nee straight pitch RBI.  Nobody comes close, maybe Garrelts...

Big Apple RBI Champ

I am a curve only guy, so I was asking about curve.  Sometimes he is effective for me, but most of the time not.  He may be the most inconsistent reliever in the business.  Sometimes he's lights out, but sometimes he can't get an out.

Every team has a tragic flaw.  Bullpen is a big prob for DET.

JoeDirt

Agreed--as far as King goes, for sure.  But I think Hernandez is the best pitcher on the Detroit staff--easily.  I think a big problem for Det (in curve, anyway) is the fact that both of their starters are righties.

I disagree.   I think Doyle has a great curveball.  I strike a ton of dudes out with him.  His stamina isn't great though.  Morris has a decent fastball too.

Yeah, I agree--Doyle has good movement and is a good pitcher--for being a righty and not throwing all that hard.  I generally think lefty pitchers are better, though, because IMO it's easier to pitch against the opposite hand as the pitcher...and since most hitters are righties, a lefty pitcher is more valuable.

I agree it's better to pitch against opposite handed hitters.  i'd like to see a breakdown of lefty/ righty hitters.  also... are all switch hitters lefties?  e.g. coleman and ozzie are really switch but computer has them as lefty.

Nails

I think most, if not all real-life switch hitters are lefties in RBI.    Mookie, HoJo, and Backman, for example, were all switch hitters and are lefties in the game.

There may be some exceptions, but i've always assumed that to be true.

Most Left Handed hitters are left handed in the game, however there are exceptions to this too.

I had to check it out to be sure.  There are surprisingly no exceptions to the rule.  All switch hitters are lefties in RBI.  For a moment, i thought i had found one in Jose Uribe, but then realized that the lineup on San Francisco's page is incorrect in saying he's a righty.

Spike Owen
Gary Pettis
Kevin Bass
Bill Doran
Alan Ashby
Roy Smalley
Gene Larkin
Mookie Wilson
Wally Backman
Howard Johnson
Lee Mazzilli
Jose Uribe
Chili Davis
Vince Coleman
Ozzie Smith
Tom Herr
Willie McGee
Terry Pendleton
Jose Oquendo
Tim Raines

Well done Nails!  I changed Uribe to a lefty (shit I never keep him in long enough to remember which way he bats) and I think the data about switch hitters deservers a FAQ Entry

You sure you got all the switch hitters in RBI?

Nails

99.9% sure.  I looked up every player to be sure, so unless baseballreference.com is wrong, or I made a mistake at this late hour...

Kick ass.  I'm glad to have helped contribute.  Good write up by the way.

Any sort of useful RBI research will be rewarded on the site, so never hesitate to do some investigating.  I sorely need to clean up the FAQ...
