Since there is a thread about the ideal pitching staff, I thought i would ask the question: If you had one inning to play for a massive amount of money and was only allowed one pitcher to pitch that inning, who would it be?

A lot of you are saying senior smoke is unhittable for one innning, but I simply don't trust him and would go with the rocket, since he as well is usually unhittable for the first two innings he pitches.

Stock

Good question.  I would probably go with Ryan.  Very, very rarely can any body score off of me for the first inning or two if I use Ryan.
However, some people have a really hard time reading side armers.  In that case, I would pick Saberhagen.  I am sticking with Ryan for the most part though.

I said it once and I'll say it again - stock is smart

Funny how everybody is picking starters, when you'd think you'd go with a lights-out reliever for a one inning job.

Gooden, Clemens, M.Scott, Tudor .... one of those would be my choice.  Probably Gooden, as i'm most comfortable with him (due to excessive use).

How much money are we talking anyways?  Maybe I'd throw Schiraldi out there, just to see if I could pull it off.

Tudor, no question.

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

Gantry

Depending on the lineup, for straight pitch it would be Garrelts or Hernandez...

I know this is controversial, but I'm going with Krukow. Good movement left and right, and he's got one of the best sinkers in the game. I'm loading up on that and daring someone to guess right on it.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

Krukow is a great pitcher.   Good choice.   Who talks smack about him?

I just don't know if Krukow gets mentioned in the top tier of RBI pitchers. Not as much as he should. He's every bit as good as Tudor, just a righty version of him.

...NOT a righty version of Tudor.  Surely (Shirley) you gest.   Tudor has significant more pop on his fastball and less back door movement.

I've foudn that the difference in the fastball between Tudor and Krukow is pretty marginal. More in the speed of the curveball. But yes, Krukow does have better drop movement.

And quit calling me Shirley...

Big Apple RBI Champ

Blyleven if I am facing more than one lefty in the "DUE UP", Tudor if more than one righty.

I'd put a ton of money on one inning that no one would score on me.
