Cool.  Is Robin Yount still a base coach there?

He's not listed on the Diamondback's Coaching Roster....

According to this article (about half way down):

"Yount, a Phoenix area resident, was a coach for the D-Backs, but he does not want a coaching job or another position that requires extensive travel."

Apparently the Brewers are trying to set him up with an office job.

Cool, that guy is loved in Wisconsin.  I think he had a son playing ball for Arizona's college team for awhile.  I wonder if he ever panned out.

When Brenly was fired they offered the job to Yount but he told them to stick it.  He's a nice guy.  I sold him a weed wacker.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

That's awesome.

I once told Rico Brogna how to get to the up-escalator at KMart.  Not as cool of a story as Robin Yount.

My mother and I once helped Orville Redenbacher load chicken onto his plate at a banquet, shakiest hands I've ever seen, frail son of a bitch too...Now he's dead(?)

since when has there ever been a K-mart that had escalators?

I sold numerous filet-o-fish sandwiches to former Bulls great Dickey Simpkins during my tenure at McDonald's in high school.

CT, it has 2 floors.  I think one in Manhattan has 5 floors.  But I might be thinking of one of the other 10 billion places in NYC.

I know I am going to get a ton of shit for this, but the nicest player I ever met in person was John Rocker.  My college roommate and I were in a bar Downtown Milwaukee and ran into him.  We saw him and busted his chops about the SI article, but was super cool about it.  "Don't ever talk to a reporter", he said, and asked if he could get us a drink.  He actaully bought us drinks on his tab the rest of the night.  He was at the bar with some other ball players (nobody famous), who really didn't give a shit about us.  John told us we were college students and didn't have money for drinks.

We went to the game the next day and chanted his name into the pitcher bullpen.  He asked us if we wanted an autograph from anyone.  I said Chipper, and my roommate said Maddux.  He jogged to the dugout and came back with 2 bats (both signed by chipper).  He apologized and said Maddux wasn't signing today.  It was still super cool.  He was such an entertainer in the bullpen, that everyone around us was cheering him on during the game.
He also signed a baseball for both of us that said "I love NY".

joe girardi was cool to me when i was 12. . . . .1989 in wrigley and he stood outside wrigley after a game and talked to me and my folks for 20 or 30 minutes.

He was a rookie that year.

Great story, despite the fact that I loathe that guy.  But I guess I'm a bit biased being a NYM fan.

Unless the NY Mets are homo sexual jewish poor black single mothers, then you shouldn't have anything against Mr Rocker ;)

On a serious note, I was never a big fan of the Giants, but I always enjoyed watching Will Clark play.  I could have done without his stellar performance in the '89 NLCS, but bottom line the guy was a gritty, balls out type player ---- and damn did he ever have a beautiful swing.   He was intense.

That would partially explain his lack of production...

I still never figured out how someone goes by the name "Dickey" - to me it's a no brained to be Rich or Richard.  Even Dick sounds better, how does one choose Dickey given the alternatives?

Don't blame you.  Just like I am biased against Gary Sheffield to this day since he still states that Milwaukee is the worst city.

Dammit Ryno, you're way off topic.

The Thrill was a great ball player.  Always loved the guy, even with that "someone pissed in my cheerios" look.
