This is a very tough, yet controversial subject.  I cannot possibly pick only 1 underrated player, since there are at least 10 i could name off the top of my head.

1.  Allan Trammel-  He is a guaranteed silent but deadly lead off homer for me when im Dt.

2. Ellis Burks- Hes got massive power and the speed to back it up.  I consistantly hit at least 2 homers with him every game

3. Bill Madlock-  even though he in a bench hitter.. He is one of my favorite pinch hitters. Even though his 14 homers arent impressive, his superior homerun hitting skills makes Matt Nokes look like an assclown.

I think it's more of a personally vendetta against Reynolds on my part.  I understand that he comes highly touted by some.  He's really let me down other times.  Certainly there are other places in the lineup that are Lopes appropriate.  Comments from Reynolds aside, I think Lopes doesn't get the respect.

Lopes, cruz, garner, davis, bass, thon, reynolds, ashby;
This line-up will maximize your Ho power. (having plenty of coke and flavored condoms will also increase your "ho" power.

I agree Lopes is good, but not underrated.  I think most RBIers give him the deserved respect.  My definition of an underrated player is one that most people would take out or leave on the bench, but shouldn't.  I don't know anyone who doesn't use Lopes in the Ho line-up.

This is why I went with Boggs.  I know so many people who take him out of the line-up, but he is pretty damn good.

I love Davy Lopes.  I usually bat him leadoff for Hatcher, who is a pile of steaming crap.  Lopes has power and insane speed.  Can't go wrong.

Alan Trammel, Tim Burks and DaEvans are hardly "underrated." I'd take those three fuckers 1, 2, 3 in my batting order anytime.

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

Though I never use Houston, Strassy does on a consistent basis, and he always subs for Kevin Bass, despite his 20 HR and Houston's relatively power-less bench.  I can attest that Bass almost never does anything positive.  For this reason, I'd rate him as one of RBI's most overrated players.

The Heepsta always come thru for me.

RedBarron

I like schofield alot.  I've never taken him out.

Very good call on Boggs.  His stats are awesome but his ratings aren't nearly what you'd think. . . . . . but the proof is in the pudding and he mashes and produces.

I'd say Allann Trammell is underrated.  He gets a lot of crap from people, but he's been a thorn in my side since '88. . . . . . he always goes yard on me. . . . I hate him, but I respect his auth-or-o-tie!

Tom Brookens in my opinion is a very underrated player. Most 8 slot batters suck in this game. However Brookens is good for clutch basehits almost every time. He can also belt it out of the park too.
Fernando Valenzuela can play every position, including the umpire, and does every night of the week, and nothing can stop him.

Let me just clarify the whole Lopes situation by saying that I am far from an expert at RBI (that's why I'm here).  Although I have always been an avid player (who didn't keep their team's stat book....?), but am hopefully making the ascention to that level before too long.

On a side note, there is going to be a minor tournament tonight with some small stakes on the line.  I'll relay the full report.

Tim Teufel.
He gets a little respect, but he's been a monster for me lately. He's hit more bombs than any Met (in games I've played and witnessed) over the last month. I liked him for the ph HR before, but he's been so much better lately.

I agree with Gantry mentioing Blank Morris and Spillman. Although Oquendo has been in a slump of late, I'm still a huge fan of The Weapon.

Gantry

Good call with Teufel, he always gives me good production in the #8 spot.  For some reason though he never does well from me at #6...

fightonusc

Chris Speier is always good for a PH bomb - sometimes I'll even start him at leadoff just to give Spilman a rest...

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

Gantry

Speier doens't do it for me for some reason.  Now Youngblood for me is a PH bomb extrordinaire, one homer and one homer only...

Tony Pena has always been solid for me.  Not much is expected since his stats are poor and he's on the Cards.  I think he's got some power, though

...warning track power.  are you playing straightpitch or what?  i cannot agree with this assessment.

He IS tied for the 3rd most power on St. Louis and has a better contact rating than Morris.

Tony Pena blows ass...     But he's WAY better than Ford, I can't believe people leave him in...

Oh I disagree, I think hes the second best 8 batter behind Brookens. He comes out with many good hits, and many homers.
