Cast your votes!    Who is the best firstbaseman in RBI?

This is a tough one, folks.

RedBarron

Donnie Baseball gets my vote.  He's not the slowest guy around, has tons of thunder in the bat, and is a lefty.

McGwire hits a lot of "at 'em" balls.  When he's hot, there's few better, but I've not had as much luck with him as I have Mattingly.

Gantry

Darrell Evans in a landslide....

Shitpaw (in one of his previous incarnations) did a poll for each position, you can see the results of those puhls in the Online Poll portion of Best Players By Position on the Rankings Page:

Stock

DaEvns gets a slight edge over Mac since he's a lefty.  If my memory serves me, I do better with Evans than McGwire anyway.

If we are playing straight pitch (batting practice stlye), I might go with skinny Mac.

I said it once and I'll say it again - stock is smart

Darrell Evans is the clear choice here. Second most power in the game...that is all.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

I put Darrell Evans as 3rd best 1b--McGwire and Mattingly ahead of him.

Are you guys serious?  No way in hell Mattingly is better than Evans, come on people!  We're talking about nearly a 100 point power difference...

McGwire I can see, he's powerful and has the PH bonus.  I didn't even notice him on there because I consider him a "bench" player and not a 1B.

fightonusc

Agreed. McGwire is a PH in the game and not a 1B.

I ain't no god damn son of a bitch
You better think about it baby

I'm going to go against the grain here and vote for Darrell Evans.
I've been swimming in raw sewage ... I love it

ericdavisfan

Darrell Evans without question.  I am a bit surprised that nobody has given any love to Wally Joyner.

Gantry

If we want to get technical there are truly no positions in RBI, as the "fielders" are all the same.  Positions are strictly made up for the instruction manual...

JoeD, after your impressively well-thought out prose on putting Dave Henderson in from the beginning, I simply have to hear your theory on how Mattingly is better than Evans.  I'm calling it "amateur" - booyah!

And if you say contact, I'm going to vomit on my keyboard....

RedBarron

Mattingly is alot better than Evans, in my dumb opinion.

Mattingly is faster and has better contact.  Both players have great power. . . . Evans' homers might travel farther but that's only good for sex appeal. . . . which evans needs a lot of. . . . . not that i'm saying Mattingly is sexy.

ultimate7

It's Ryno's puhl, if he wants to include McGwire, I've got no problem with that.  By the way I voted for WClark, mostly due to contact (just for Gantry, I really don't know off hand that Clark has better contact than Evans, I think I just use SF more than Det)

The Raiders are a successful organization

BeefMaster

Does the contact penalty reduce power by just the contact rating, or a multiple of it?  If it removes just the contact value, Evans is still way more powerful than Mattingly even with the penalty.

I should like to answer "contact" just for the simple fact that you'll vomit on your keyboard.

Actually, my answer is probably more that:

1) Mattingly was always my favorite player as a kid
2) the Yankees (my favorite team since childhood--when I started playing RBI) are only represented by a few players
3) I get more/better production out of Mattingly than Darrell.  I'm positive that I really do.  Perhaps this is a function of my foundness for Mattingly--eventually that shit feeds on itself (much like your success with Spilman, Wilfong, etc and your failures with Lake, etc).

I do acknowledge that Evans' power minus contact is still greater than Mattingly's power, so it can't be the contact rating.  I do know that Mattingly is a heck of a lot faster, but he's not exactly Vince Coleman, so that difference is only very subtle.

I suppose it mostly comes down to the fact that when I play with Dt, my oponent usually throws a rightie pitcher at me.  When I play with Am, my opponent usually throws a lefty pitcher at me.  I much prefer to bat the same hand as the pitcher, so naturally, Mattingly enjoys the "match up" advantage much more than Evans does.

Does that restore your faith in my knowledge of the game that is RBI?

It sure does, you homer (smiley) - you didn't really say anything that makes him better.  But he does play better for you, which is the most important thing...  So I'll let it slide...

fknmclane

I cast my vote for Will Clark.  I don't know what his power numbers are or what his contact rating is or whatever.  But he's a fucking rock in the 5 spot for SF.

Every ball I hit with him is absolutely killed and he's consistent which is something I cannot say for DaEvans. That slow bastard is too hot or cold for my tastes. He definitely hits the longest bombs and when he is on, watch out.

Attezzobal

I'm the lone vote for Jack Clark...He's obviously not better than a bunch of them (but if that was the case, why let the fans vote??)...And he doesn't produce well enough for me as Mattingly does for JoeD...However, in that lineup, Anything Goes style, with him being pitched around, there is NOTHING (in RBI, or life) that is more satisfying than hitting a bomb with him.
