JoeD, after your impressively well-thought out prose on putting Dave Henderson in from the beginning, I simply have to hear your theory on how Mattingly is better than Evans. I'm calling it "amateur" - booyah!

And if you say contact, I'm going to vomit on my keyboard....

I should like to answer "contact" just for the simple fact that you'll vomit on your keyboard.

Actually, my answer is probably more that:

1) Mattingly was always my favorite player as a kid
2) the Yankees (my favorite team since childhood--when I started playing RBI) are only represented by a few players
3) I get more/better production out of Mattingly than Darrell.  I'm positive that I really do.  Perhaps this is a function of my foundness for Mattingly--eventually that shit feeds on itself (much like your success with Spilman, Wilfong, etc and your failures with Lake, etc).

I do acknowledge that Evans' power minus contact is still greater than Mattingly's power, so it can't be the contact rating.  I do know that Mattingly is a heck of a lot faster, but he's not exactly Vince Coleman, so that difference is only very subtle.

I suppose it mostly comes down to the fact that when I play with Dt, my oponent usually throws a rightie pitcher at me.  When I play with Am, my opponent usually throws a lefty pitcher at me.  I much prefer to bat the same hand as the pitcher, so naturally, Mattingly enjoys the "match up" advantage much more than Evans does.

Does that restore your faith in my knowledge of the game that is RBI?

Yankees suck.
Fernando Valenzuela can play every position, including the umpire, and does every night of the week, and nothing can stop him.

posts such as this take about as much thought as the "cubs suck" posts posted by pieces of human shit all over this fucking world.

But you are right, the yankees do suck.

Far be it for me to continue an RBI thread off track...But the Yankees are embarking on a 46 game winning streak...

Tino himself, a 45 game HR streak...Tino of course took over the Don Mattingly who is the starting 1st baseman on the all star team (or some other way to relate this post to RBI)

Jack Clark is better than Darrell Evans

It sure does, you homer (smiley) - you didn't really say anything that makes him better. But he does play better for you, which is the most important thing... So I'll let it slide...

I said he more often times gets the advantage in pitcher match ups...that can be the difference maker right there.

Evans scares me every time he's at bat.  hes scarry like a naked homeless man pulling one off out in the street, then decides he wants to run and tackle you.
and thats scarry!

Exactly, I agree...   You didn't give any reasons why he was better overall, but how he was better for you.  The pitching matchups give Mattingly the edge, making him a better player for you.   The puhls are personal, so I accept your answer...

No, we're still gay because I don't get what you're saying.  Mattingly is better "overall" than Evans IMO because Mattingly gets to bat with a better match up more often.  It's the same as if I'd say, "Evans is better overall because his power is better."

They're both facts that contribute to the player's success in the game.

Also, I am not a straight statistics scouter (as stock clearly is)...nothing wrong with that, but I personally do not scout/evaluate solely/mostly on power/contact/speed ratings.
