Things to do in Columbus during the tournament...

Doing some research to see if anything is going on special in Columbus the weekend of the tournament (other than the tournament itself, which I expect to be the biggest thing in town that weekend). I know that the Dee Nee community is hitting bars galore at some point, but some options to consider...

- The Columbus Clippers, the Yankees' AAA team, is playing a home series against the Norfolk Tides that weekend. I wouldn't be opposed to the concept of getting some cheap seats for the game if the schedule works out. Nothing like minor league baseball for some good times...

- There's also a High School Battle of the Bands at the Newport West Music Hall on Friday - nothing like getting drunk and heckling a bunch of bad teenaged bands...

- The Columbus Gay Pride Parade is on Saturday, so if anyone is interested in a Lemon Party during the tournament, I'm sure that can be arranged.

- There's some boxing event at the Nationwide Arena, but I haven't heard of any of the fighters...

That sounds sweet as anything, Mets/Yanks (sorta), could even expand it to a drinking game of sorts (I got the Tides, especially if Petit is pitching)

Gantry

I'm down for the Clippers or Gay Parade, sans lemonparties.  Lets see how open the dee-nee members truly are, plus there is always adequate booze at such events...

Never experienced either, lets do a freaky testosterone/lack mix with baseball and pride.  Who is with me?

fknmclane

I'm definitely down for the Clippers game...and drinking heavily.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

I would like to point out that Howard Johnson is the hitting coach of the Norfolk Tides. It's almost mandatory now that we bring a copy of RBI to the game to be autographed by HoJo - perhaps the cartridge to be used for the finals?

fknmclane

Said cartridge should be given along with the prize money to the winner of the tournament.  I'd donate an extra copy of RBI for sure.

This is a tremendous idea, assuming I don't have to ask HoJo for his autograph...

I've been to the Gay Pride parade in West Hollywood once - a friend's friend was part of the Gay Men's Choir (if you've seen Six Feet Under, they are the vocal group David joins). It was fairly entertaining (the Gay Mormon Parents on Rollerblades was an interesting concept), but nothing that I'd go back to. Plus, the parade is in the afternoon, so unless peeps get knocked out early on purpose to make it out there...

(I'm just giving McLane an excuse for why he goes 0-2 and is done by lunch on Saturday)

fightonusc

The game starts at 7:25 p.m. I have no idea where the stadium is in relation to the hotel, or anything else in Columbus. I would recommend just buying tickets at the gate, since I think few of us are going to want to commit to anything until we know how we're feeling that night.

Whoa, how the fuck can you be gay and mormon?  Religious interpretation knows no bounds...

The minor league game is a much better fit, do they serve booze at said events?

I should point out that we need to get an announcement made about our group at the game:

"Do the Clippers offer scoreboard announcements?

We would be happy to welcome your group, or acknowledge an anniversary or birthday on our message board.  The Clippers offer this as a complimentary service.  We ask that you call us, at (614) 462-5250, or email us, at info@clippersbaseball.com, at least four (4) hours prior to a night game or 24 hours before a day game."

I'll handle getting it set up, but what should it say?

TICKETS

Box Seats: $9.00

Club Reserved Seats: $7.50

Reserved Seats: $6.50

General Admission: $5.00

Beer would appear to be $5.00 for a 20 oz. Draft (Bud or Bud Light) or 12 oz. Premium Beer (Michelob, Michelob Light, Michelob Ultra, Amber Bock). And, if you buy box or club reserved seats, they have staff that will take your food/drink orders and bring the food back to you in your seat. I've had this before at Staples Center for Kings games, and it's pretty sweet.

I'm not even going into the concept of getting a luxury box for the game...

Gantry

Can't be spoken because they pronounce "D Knee"

I know they didn't just call Michelob a "premium beer"

fightonusc

And I know they didn't just call Michelob Ultra a "beer" of any kind...

If we do an announcement, it should be welcome the participants in the 2005 National RBI Baseball Tournament, or something like that.

Hilarious that you mention this--my wife and I have been renting past Six Feet Under seasons (currently on 3, where David joins this choir).  David just ran into a friend at the video store--where he was informed that his last video is overdue.  The video, you ask?

"Back to the Crack: Butt-Munch II."  I thought this was exceptionally funny.  :)

I like usc's quote, almost looks professional...

I have a feeling that some form of "internal bleeding" will happen to at least one participant..

Cooper Stadium is the oldest stadium in the International League.  My dad used to go there as a kid...also, Riley and I were there about every weekend as kids...getting autographs.  I probably have about 1000 autographs from when I was a kid and Riley and I went...I'd even had willing players a stack of their cards and they'd sign 'em all (for some reason, I recall Charlie Puleo and Bob Brower signed 10-20 cards at a time for me)...

Are you guys talking about going to the game on Friday night?  Saturday won't work, for obvious reasons...
