I like the idea of a low cost str8 pitch (batting practice) tourney.  Str8 pitch is kind of like playing "last pocket" in pool.  Everyone has a chance to win.  You could even decide teams by pulling out of a hat b4 every game.  This way, anyone could feel like they have a chance to win.

yeah, but if you pull HOU out and the other guy pulls out DET in a straigh pitch game, you know your done before it even starts. seriously, there would be no point to playing.

In a related note, I think we should just have a BOS/DET tournety. you pick out of a hat before each game, but the only two choices are det or bos for straight pitch. that would be fun, and games would be long.

Or every person gets to pick their top 5 teams and pick one of them from a hat.
Not sure it really matters in str8 pitch.  Believe it or not, I have played w/ detroit where they have been ice cold, and have played games where I have put up 20+ runs with houston.  I just think it would be cool (casual) tourney that would come down to half luck and half skill.

Doesn't the dee-nee household have any smaller bars nearby.  I don't need to go to huge clubs downtown.  Especially since I will be married, I will be focused more on the booze than the bitches (especially with all you camera guys around    ).

I voted for the tourney, but completely understand why we wouldn't do it.  It's tough to keep a schedule when you have games and loser bracket game, especially when you get to best of 5/7 territory. 

But it pains me to not do a tourney.  Maybe a ghetto tourney before the bar would be most excellent.  Best of three series (or even one) with some funky ass rules.  Like you pick out of a hat curve/straight/slurve then teams are random and a coin flip for "sub your opponents players" or something like that.  Makes everything random and you don't know what the hell is going on people will be playing teams/styles/subs that they have never seen before...

Another downside though is that a tourney means we'll get no fun Dee-Nee'ers who are more focused on RBI and not big drinkers.  These guys keep the site alive at times and it's good to have a group who aren't sloppy drunks and still want to meet and hang out...

If we do my house, there is a bar called the Old Munich in the same town.   It's a complete dive, comprised of the same ten regulars, very little lighting, cubs game always on and cheap drinks.  It's a slice of heaven in the middle of surburban hell.  I'm typically the youngest guy by 20 years though, so if people are looking to socialize with others, it's probably not the place...

this pretty much describes me and edavis fan, as well as a few others, i'm sure.  no drinky, no booby for me.  but i love baseball and RBI, and i love my dee-nee'rs in a platonic way.  it would be great to meet everybody if i coud afford it.

Yeah, I definitely don't want to make this a drunk-only fest.  Many of the RBI fans who don't drink would be more inclined to the tourney.  The casual and non-drinkers like vit, Teddy, wumpst, edfan, Riley, Dirt, (though judging from the booze collection at his house, Dirt may be a closet drunk) Gerlost etc would make a nice core group for a tourney or a group of events that doesn't involve talking to drunks all day...

I'm honestly not a big strip club/hooker guy myself.  Been twice and didn't really enjoy myself that much either time, especially with the drink prices.  I prefer to ogle girls when they aren't watching.  So no matter what the drunk/sober ratio is, there will be a non-booby contingent at any chicago gathering...

I drink and I drive, not necessarily at the same time. My car can hold 6-7. the trunk can hold another 2, or one miked.
