My feeling is that we've been running slower than normal the last couple days.  It was worse yesterday afternoon, but still slower than normal now.

It's quite strange that it was slow over the weekend, because the traffic from customers would be non-existent.  I have just about all the hardware for the new server, so we'll be upgrading to a new server relatively soon...

nightwulf

Please tell me you didn't forget a new flux capacitor.

I did - though I couldn't get the jigawatts I wanted, but it'll do short term...

I got the new server up and running a few minutes ago, then I realized that I installed the 32-bit version of CentOS.  Figured with my high class $28 64-bit processor, I should go that route.  Especially since I won't be installing a GUI, which involves a majority of the software that gives 64-bit software trouble.  So I'm bittorrenting that now and should be able to install after work tomorrow...

Once I get the wikis moved over, I'm seriously considering setting up some sort of shared access system where people can make "blogs" and update the front page of the site.  Anyone here work with a CMS like Drupal or Wordpress?  I figure if I can get guys like fighton, TBG, Beefmaster etc an account to make RBI updates we might be able to resurrect the dying front page.

People's thoughts on this?  I think a vibrant front page setup will attract new users and get folks more acclimated and coming back to the site.  When you rely on just me to update the front page (shit, I don't even have Columbus or Chicago tourney updates yet!), answer emails etc and with the forums a bit of a tough barrier of entry to newbies I think this is the kickstart we need...

Am I crazy?  Does nobody care?  Can we keep the RBI Legacy going or are we dooming ourselves to a little forum cult?

Gantry

Here's a pic of Dee-Nee 2.0, in all it's low cost glory...

Is Gantry actually John Titor?

the case for the new server should somehow be in the shape of the rbi guy

Somebody break out the Dremel and send it to me...

Seriously, $28 for a 64-bit boxed processor.  That's just lunacy people!  We're gonna start at 1GB of RAM and if we do any upgrades that'll be first in line.  RAM is a usable part here (we have so many spare HDs and power supplies that they won't be missed) and I didn't want to swipe too much.  I really should have spent $20 and got a motherboard with more RAM slots and SATA ports, but this baby will smoke regardless...

I like the front page idea, Gantry.  Are you thinking of a full-on blog with daily updates or is this idea just to take the onus off your lazy ass when it comes to front page updates?

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

Gantry

A little bit of both.  Basically whenever a relevant RBI article/player tidbit comes up, basically any forum heavy hitter can update the front page.  Then people can leave comments (or link to a new thread on the RBI page to comment) and we'll get people who aren't heavy forum posters checking it out on a regular basis...

The beauty of it is that making a front page update involves software that isn't much more difficult than posting on the forums - right now it's a PITA to hand-edit the page to do updates and it's only me/Lips/nightwulf who have the ability to do so...

TβG

i'm in for that.  i'm not on as much throughout the day, but i'd be happy to contribute with newly acquired special access powers.

This is my fault too. Gantry and I talked about making the front page accessible to more users like a year ago. It's on my "to do" list.
