Fort Dodge, IA 8/3/05 House games. TBT vs Nate

ATG games, of course!
I won all 3 by the skin of my sacks. 

game 1 saw BOS sneak past DET 1-0 in 9.  a dribbler to the 1st base side of the pitcher allowed a run as the out had to be made at first about midway thru the game.  nate/det out hit me 5-3 in the game though.

game 2 was a battle that went extra's.  Cal hung 3 on he board in the bottom of the 7th and SF countered with 3 in the 8th.  In the top of the 11th Davis singled, and stole 2nd.  Thompson hit a weak grounder to left and Chili just sneaked in under the throw at the plate for a 4-3 SF lead.  In the bottom half a very tired Krukow struck out Joyner and got Jackson to ground out to first, but Downing hit one out on a full count pitch.  Tie game!  Downing kills nate, hell downing does some real clutch hitting for me.  Ruppert Jones then murders a liner to center off the wall, and gets to 2nd on a questionable call  .  Wilfong then proceds to hit a drifter over the right field wall for a walk off.

Game 3 saw more runs being poured in.  NY took an early 4-0 lead only to see Nate and SF rally for a late 5-4 lead with a Maldonado 3 run shot off Ojeda.  However the Whale gave up a shot of his own to Heep in the bottom of the 8th(pinch hitting for the pitcher).  In the bottom of the 9th i guessed right on a pitch ahead of time and bailed out way towards the back of the box and Strawberry connected on an insanely inside pitch to hit it out for the walk off HR with 1 out. 

back to back walk-offs for me tonight to finish out the last 2 games.  Very nice.  Nate has done some serious catching up here recently, and he probably coulda held his own in the cotut.

we also played some Tecmo Bowl to finish out season 2's regular season schedule which needs proper documentation.

nice report TBT, the recent Ohio tourney has reall turned me on to competitive RBI as long as it remains fun. I noticed that the really hardcore RBI'ers don't really get into the whole yelling and shit, but thats what makes it so fun for me.

I going to work on Marthas Vineyard for all of next week and my boss is putting us up out there, hopefully a decent amount RBI will be played.

I love how many games end in walkoffs, RBI was and is the greatest 2 player baseball game ever made!

nate and I are becoming some hardcore rbi'ers lately and theres plenty of screaming and throwing crap.  mostly on his part, since bad things happen to him in TB and RBI, or else my NES just hates him.

Joe D and i had a discussion about this and the celebration/screaming actually seems to be dictated by just how jovial your opponent it.  I even used the word jovial on the phone.  i tend to giggle like a little bitch when i play nate, cause of all the bad calls a nd errors that happen to him each game.

we talk much trash, exchange a few high fives and all around have a good time, no matter how the games turn out.

Malnu--I assume you're talking specifically about Riley and me.  Remember, in that last series, there was like $300 on the line (diff btwn 1st and 2nd place)...plus, did Barry Sanders do a lot of yelling and taunting?  Does that mean he didn't have any fun?

I just prefer to act like I've won before and I'll win again--'cause I have, and I will.  But above all else, I'll have fun doing it.

I get a tad too excited sometimes, but i really get into the games.   i think joe was there in the room at the cotut when Downing hit the 3 run walk-off in extra's to win a game vs Lips....i was way pumped and jumpin around and screaming and shit like that.

there was defiantely some good celebrating after walking off twice tonight.

Yeah, I was there.  But it wasn't the COTUT.  And I would never do that to my opponent--I see no reason to show anybody up.  Although, in your defense, Lips was showing you up the entire game up until that point...

wow Joe, im surprised.  when i hit a walkoff shot, there so much relief and exhilaration that its gotta come out.   

i guess maybe nate and i get it from all those battles in the trenches playing TB.  theres a shitload of tension during big games, and in TB theres a lot of shit you cant control, like if you cant pick you opponents plays very well during a game.  the differenmce is that TB rarely features any huge dramtics at the last second compared to RBI.  the best thing is probably the last second score(td or fg, or better yet huge kick return) or defensive stand in a game, and many times the games get decided midway thru the 4th and not at the gun.  BTW big kick returns are pretty much my favorite way to end a game......i go fkn nuts! many a time in OT i've taken one to the house to end the game.

there was a playoff game nate and i had.  he was SF and I was LA.  nate had dominated me in the recent match-ups winning 4 straight, but in the playoff game i got a couple huge plays then hit a fg right on the cusp of bahrs distance at the gun to knock out SF.  i was up the flight of stairs in my basement in no time yelling and screaming, bust out into the back yard and ran around fist pumping for a minute.  who knows what the neighbors thought?

about 2 hours later nate returned a kick off for a td at the gun to return the favor. he mobbed me by tackling me in celebration like i was his dang teammate or something.

Nah Joe I know your having fun but what I'm trying to say is that I would feel akward playing someone who's not so into the yelling and screaming because I would probaly feel the need to restrain myself.

I'm pretty sure Steve Katz was unhappy with some of my antics.

I never celebrate or talk trash...However, fucking Conzy deserved every minute of it.

During my series with Bandur (when everyone else was at the bar/watching Riley and Joey D) in games 4 and 5 we just had a really long conversation (game 4 was the 18 1/3rd scoreless game), and I too let the opponent dictate how much celebration if any.

And if Barry Sanders was having fun, he wouldn't have fucking retired.

quick ? - why did nate leave krukow in at the end if he was dead against Cali?  you guys play 2sp?  Was he out of subs?

if i recall in that game krukow was the last pitcher he had.  that was the game that went extra's, so yeah thats right now that i think about it.  whoever i had pitching still had some gas in the tank.

nate and i always play cotut style 4 pitchers stuff.
and for the record, nates dedication is outstanding as well.  that guy can easily play TB or RBI from dusk till dawn.   

the other guys in town i play against has us keeping the same teams for a best of 3/5 and we use only 1 starter, when we do those tourneys.  I dont seem to have a preference though, cause its almost the same game.  ive been finding as i learn more that its becoming a bit easier for me to get 3 pitchers thru a 9 inning game now.

steve katz was only unhappy with how he melted down in his elmination series.   i actually didn't have a problem with any of your antics...i suppose its part of the game like amphetamines and steroids.  i should know, after all, i am steve katz....i think.

Some times when Riley and I would play, another roommate walking by (or sometimes even the pup walking by) would cause the NES to reset itself.  Touchy wonder thing of beauty.
