In our circle, we call it "Ribby".  I would think that that's the standard, but i'm not sure.  Does anyone here actually take the time to say "Lets play R-B-I Baseball"?

Sam

We just call it 'R-B-I' and don't bother with the 'Baseball' at all.

M-W.com has it both R-B-I and Ribby.

I typically say: Would you like to play "The-Greatest-Game-ever-thought-of-and-put-into-electronic-code-so-that-we simple-humans-might-enjoy-even-a-small-portion-of-our-otherwise-completely-insignificant-and-miserable-lives"?

Of course, that might just be a local dialet...

If we want to be long winded we use the term Rib-eee.  For short just "Let's Dee-Nee ourselves."  In extreme circumstances I will say, "It is time to get fucked up."  That means that we have some SoCo in the house.  I love how many RBI traits are common across the globe.

R-B-I around here, don't hear "Ribby" too often.  But let me know how you pronounce it, perhaps it deserves to be a FAQ question...

My friend Chubbs and I don't really call it anything.  We look at each other and throw up our hands.  Then it's on.  If we do call it something, it's ribby, but I'm not sure how to spell it.

I usually just say something like, "are you ready for your weekly beatdown," or "it's time to have your ass handed to you."  That's usually enough.

Gantry, I think these definitely makes a good FAQ.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

B

we either would call it RBI, or me and T would look at eachother and say either

"best of seven?"
"chessmatch" or
"you got time?"

those are the classic lines...
A couple of jesters? In the court of the king! IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE TELLING ME?!?!?!?

We just call it R-B-I.  The baseball part is understood.

We either say

"R-B-I"
"Let's go" (said non-chalantly)
(sing the theme song)

I can't believe that the overwhelming majority says R-B-I.  "Ribby" just rolls off the tongue so easily.  Plus save a syllable.  Think of all the time you guys could've saved by saying "Ribby" all this time and not R-B-I.

Let's assume it takes about .5 seconds to pronounce the extra syllable.

Let's also assume, that RBI is mentioned by us or our friends on an average of 4 times per day (a low estimate to be sure).

RBI has been out since 1988, so that's 15 years of RBI.

Here's the math:

.5*4*(15*365)=10950

10950 seconds=182.5 minutes or a little over 3 hours.

So basically by saying R-B-I instead of "Ribby" you've missed out on one entire 3-hour RBI marathon.  I suggest giving "Ribby" a try in the future.

NotURMasButArmas

That was silly.

My RBI support group calls it "RBI" but I usually ask them if they want an "ass whoopin', Tengen style."

Always has, alway will be pronounced R-B-I in So Cal.

R-B-I here as well - must have been some sort of West Coast regional radio campaign that Tengen did to launch the game in the 80s.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

GDavis

I would say it's the laid back attitude of So Cal that makes you guys say R-B-I.  Here in New York, things are much more fast paced, so we go with the abbreviated "ribby".  I remember at the NY tourney it was pointed out that not only did my crew call it that, but so did BlyNoNo and Big Apple Champ.

BeeJay

Those crazy regional radio campaigns.  Who would have thought that R.B.I would be prounced as R-B-I?
"Thank you Mr. Toilet Bowl..thank you for being cool on the side...you're the only one that understands me."
