I'm fairly new reader of the board so I'm not sure if this has been discusssed before, but here goes:

In my experience it seems that errors are more likely to occur if you are not in perfect position to field the ball, so if you are dead center with where the ball will land on a fly ball errors are less common.  If you are slightly off center doink are more likely.

Can anyone confirm, or am I totally off?

I agree...  More BOPs occur if your guy isn't lined up with the ball.  Another one is that you are more likely to BOP if you hit the button too quickly after picking it up or catching it.  In fact, we typically hit the buttons when our opponent is fielding to induce a BOP.  Not 100% certain it helps, but we are fairly certain....

And in a totally unprovable theory - the pitcher BOPs more than any other player, use a different infielder when fielding short popups...

oh yeah I forgot about the errors when you try to throw to early.

I didn't know about hitting the button when opponents are trying to catch, but this would agree with our theory that errors are more frequent if runner is just rounding first base when the catch is made since you are pressing the button to round the base

BOPS are never guaranteed but it helps to run back and forth like crazy.  Yes, the pitcher does BOP more than anyone else.

As far as being in position, BOPS occur way more frequently if you aren't centered.  My brother plays drinking RBI in the way that if a BOP is made, the guy who benefits drinks.  We argue all the time.  I think it's the fielder's fault.  Sometimes you can't prevent it but other times one can take care of it.

McLane... see term Electric Boogaloo in glossary.

The dancing runner is a staple in my house as well.  No one really knows if it fucks up the computer but it can be distracting for a drunk RBI player.

Baines

We've always thought that BOP's were more likely if the player was moving when the ball was fielded but I guess that also ties in with the player not being lined up.

I also don't know if there's any merit to it but it seems like you get errors when you sub a player that isn't natural to the position like Armas for Spike Owen.

Baines may have hit a homer with Baines, yelled Baines and immediately changed into a Baines jersey.

You know who's the best? Baines...
