Why is it that I can make a great throw from the outfield to first, third, and home but never to second?  I can never get the ball to get big on the way to second base.  I don't understand it.  The technique is the same but for some reason up and A from the outfield does not work.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Am I an idiot?

I think maybe part of the problem is that 2B is closer to the outfield than 1st and 3rd, so it doesn't look like as good a throw even when it is.  Of course, that's just a theory; I need to play a game to find out for sure.

Agree with Beefmaster.  The distance of the throw makes the ball get big.  You can still fire a hard throw into 2nd base but it's not as dramatic because of the shorter distance.

Yeah, I think you're right about the ball getting big because the throws are further away.  But try and rifle one from the wall in dead center to second base.  I find it hard to throw a rope.  It's not that I can't.  It's just the hardest throw to make, that's all.

Does anyone else use the run and throw tyechnique?  Shortening the distance by "Crow-hopping" and running towards second for a couple steps and then throwing?   It seems like your throws are more effective when used correctly...

Never really tried it but thanks for the heads up.  Does the momentum actually help or is it more mental.  Either way, any edge in RBI is important.

I disagree with any type of crop hopping... even with the fastest runners or worst throwers - a throw is always moving faster than a run.
