Good point, broiler.  Pat is certain to know what you're talking about by that comment...

Pat should write about Dirt's late night grooming habits.

Pat had asked me if RBI Baseball was going to be featured on the Wii. As far I know, the main reason it hasn't is the licensing issues ensuing from the Tengen/Nintendo lawsuits in the 1980s. Can anyone confirm that?

Nintendo will neither confirm nor deny anything relating to Wii Virtual Console releases. That said ...

1- Any title for which licensing is shaky has not appeared on VC. Arguably the biggest title for the N64 was GoldenEye, but with Rare repositioning as a Microsoft dev team, it's unlikely that Nintendo could get the rights easily. Thus, despite the fact that everyone wants it, it's not there.

2- No Tengen-licensed games appear on the console now. They didn't have many runaway hits, but if you check a list of their releases, you'll note a few important titles. If Nintendo doesn't want to bother to license Pac-Man, Paperboy, or Gauntlet, I doubt they'll pursue the RBI series.

Thanks, guys. I'm not really interested in Tecmo Bowl -- just RBI Baseball. I'd like to look at the popularity of classic games by focusing on just this one.

nomaaa

there have been a few online leagues in past years, mostly run by a cowboy with orange shoes.

Awesome stuff and thanks for the interest Pat.  I'd be willing to have a discussion, but I'm not entirely sure what we'd talk about.  I guess that would be your job though.  Focusing on the tournaments makes the most sense, someone besides me find a list of the entries for the last few big ones and list the diversity in states....

Currently, his name is Todd Blythe(Terror?), actually.  He's from Ft. Dodge, IA... I have no idea whether that's close enough to Chicagoland for the Trib, though.

I had a phone interview today, not sure I was able to give much insight as I was trying to chase around a 2 year old during the conversation

I'm 4 - 5 hours south of Chi-town and I am unofficially the top ranked nude RBI-er on the planet.  I have only lost one game ever.  And have thrown a no-hitter and a perfect game in the the buff.  My most memorable performance was in Oneonta, NY during RBI HOF weekend of Ryne and Wade.  I was playing fellow forum member rastein and pitched and 11 inning 1 hitter with Mike Witt.  Alan Trammell led off the game with a HR for him and I went lights out after that.  Ruppert Jones had a couple HRs.

*My nude games all include my lucky Cardinals hat.

Gerlost

In this year's national tourney, I lost a game because I gave up a Steve Lake home run, then the next day I won a game by hitting a home run with Steve Lake.

I win.
