I thought that "Randomly Post the First Thing..." thread from Anything Goes needed an RBI counterpart for thoughts that should be posted but maybe don't deserve their own thread.

After kickball last night, I brought my NES and some games to the bar and hooked it up to the big screen (some other douchecunt team had brought Guitar Hero the week before). There was an immediate crowd of people wanting to play. I played a couple of games and then let other people play - better to spread the love and get more people fired up about RBI Baseball.

I bring this up because I was watching two people play with limited RBI Baseball experience. It was the classic Al vs. NL match-up, and one of the guys (Paul) left Pedrique in to bat. As I was about to suggest pulling his ass out immediately - BOOM, a HR over the wall in left field. I believe that's the first-ever Al Pedrique non-wallzie HR I've ever witnessed.

I was in a state of stunned silence the rest of the night.

there are also folks complaining about the lack of Bobby Grich, Dwight Evans, and Willie Randolph.

Also, what's the proper response to someone coming over and saying "RBI Baseball? Sweet! But Bases Loaded is a better game - you can't charge the mound in RBI..." Other than punching them in the cock, I mean.

when you are playing kickball, do you imagine yourself as a lifesize RBI-guy, running off the field crying when you make an out, etc?  other than the time when you are super mario, obviously

Bob Seger is about the worst thing you can do to RBI Baseball

fathedX

My buddy was a Bases Loaded fan back in the day, says he doesn't remember playing much RBI.  He did say they had Tecmo Super Bowl tournaments, so he's not all bad.

Oh, and someone didn't know who Jim Rice was, so he kept referring to him as "Jerry Rice". I think he was kidding, but I'm not sure.

I also noticed that it takes some adjustments playing on a wide-screen TV. I was having trouble judging fly balls all night, and had a couple of times where I started to make a play on a high pop up with my IF, only to realize to my horror that it was going to get behind him and drop. Also, I've never seen pixels that big before.

well i have a question and i do not remember if i asked it before. Is there anyway to make the little rbi guys run faster?

Also is there a way to control the speed of the pitch?

No

If you press up or down on the directional pad when pitching you'll throw either a changeup or fastball.

Are RBI guys asexual like the smurfs? Are they related in any way to the smurfs? Honest question since there is no apparent display of a man unit among the RBI dudes.

Hit A and B rapidly while they're going down the line, it only works when there's one runner and they're going to first.

And playing on larger televisions is crazy, it took me a while to gauge the speed of pitches, I now refuse to play on non-square tvs.

I am still quite disappointed in my Natl tourney appearance...

I really couldnt have played worse than I did in those first three games.  I think my day was over when I got thrown out at second against Beales costing me a run and the lead in my first game....it was all downhill from there.

The game is 90% mental and 50% effort or something like that.
