Awesome, only a few more to go.

Travis - which lineups are you missing, I'll contribute one so you quit F-ing around on the dee-nee boards and come help me with this MAME machine!

;)

I'm done, my friend.  I've been doing the ratings on downtime at work...

Are we still shooting for tonight for your mame machine?

Congrats, nice job, will be looking forward to loading that rom onto the mame setup.

Tonight still works for me, I have a softball game at 7:15, done at around 8 and can be back to my house around 8:30. My kids will be down and out by that point.

Good time last night bastard...that machine is going to crush at the party...

Beastie, I have ROM text for you...I'll PM it to you...

beastietg

Thanks, I got the message.  I'll send you a reply.

My line-ups and stats are done too.

Ok, instead of limiting this to beastie, I figured I'd post it here and get everyone's feedback.  The text file is attached to this post...

Here is some info:

Here it is. A few things:

Pitchers are not rated, those are previous year's ratings. Only look at hitters for now

I rate to reflect a season snapshot, so if a guy was really bad but is normally good, I tend to rate him a little lower to reflect that. I do make exceptions for injuries, etc, but a guy like pujols won't get the max power this year even though he's normally right up there. He'll still be good, but he's not getting Andre Dawson power.

I cap the power at 954, which is the most on the original ROM

Bench players are rated for their role...if they are often in the lineup, I give them enough power to be subbed in and played with.  If they are usually a pinch hitter, I rate them low enough that they are useful for their first AB where they get +64 power, and after that, aren't really useful

I rate on a scale, so there's a general pattern, and then I tweak from there

These ratings utilize the new grounder attribute. N = normal power, no modifications. W = weak power, basically that they aren't able to hit as many homeruns, so a guy with 3 HR who bats 300+ might get a good amount of power and be set as a W power guy, so don't freak when you see guys 3 HR guys with a power of 860 or something like that...

What I'm looking for from you is your help in making the ROM for the community the best it can be.  I want this to start being something people put on a cartridge every year. So, glaring power mistakes, etc.  Speed doesn't necessarily translate to speed in real life, because it affects OBP and BA in RBI, so if you think a guy is too fast or too slow, that will help.  Also, if a lineup is completely invalid, that's good info too.

I'm open to any and all feedback.  When you stare at this stuff, it's easy to miss things...thanks!

Yea, good call allowing everyone to give feedback.

First thing, you said you cap Power at 954. That makes sense. But what's your range for Batter Contact?  I barely have any batters with contact over 27 on my ROMs but have felt maybe I should make adjustments for certain batters that it would probably be more appropriate for having higher contact stats.

Second,  I think SF Giants should have Belt batting 6th , Blanco batting 7th and Nady on the bench.

Edit* - I think I answered my own question...  basically when I changed the batter's contact from the ROM that came with the editor after changing the lineups (They're mostly around 17-22 but no less than 10 or higher than 27, except pitchers which i had at 30), I did so because I had juiced the CPU and cut the bench batter bonus by half and therefore felt it would balance in a way with the defense being faster and throwing the ball quicker and the batters having better hits on the field.  I dunno... Its part 'personal preference' and part 'just-what-works-well-thru-trial-and-error'.

But my point is that I forgot your ROM is going to be with default settings and therefor my batters stats from my ROM are probably going to be a little juiced for certain players you have having contact of over 30 and stuff like that.

And you made that point about bench players that are good for pinch hitting and bench players that are good for substitutions.  I had not thought about that and so my stats don't reflect that concept.

Regardless, I'm still going to look it over more and give feedback and make a default settings ROM as well.

I always rate for default so people can play it unjuiced. Then I juice it after the fact for playing vs. CPU.

Yeah, there's a lot of variables that come into play when rating guys that doesn't seem obvious at first glance...

I'll take a look at the giants lineup, thanks for the rec...

Turd

I'll also be putting these hitters on a ROM soon for play testing...

Basically, looking at these ratings from afar, I feel like the ratings trend higher than the original ROM (due to the groundball hack).  I'll need to put some serious playtesting in to see how it works, but if if detracts from the original style of play, I might go back to rating on a purely studs and duds approach based on power, and trying to find that happy medium between power and batting average.

So, in essence, this 2012 postseason ROM will be a trial run.  If I don't like it, I'm going back to my tried and true method for the 2013 preseason release.

I'll be expecting feedback from people...

Turd

Ok, attached the ROM in the first post, and I'll also link to it here:

http://forums.dee-nee.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=28352.0;attach=25223

Remember, the pitchers are previous years. The only changes in this ROM are:

Updated batter lineups/ratings
Switch hitter hack
Groundball hack
Changed Florida to Miami and updated uniform (still unsure of this one)

Anxiously awaiting your playtesting feedback...

OH BOY! I CAN'T WAIT TO BOMB SOME DODONGOES!

So, any feedback? It was downloaded 7 times...or is Beastie just stealing my ratings :)

Turd

Alrighty, all of a sudden Beastie is MIA...that said, I've got a good roll on the pitchers ratings...should have them done soon and can release a beta version...

beastietg

Sorry,  I was on vacation in Maui. I just got back today.

HOW 'BOUT THEM GIANTS!!! WORLD SERIES CHAMPS!!! (I'm a Giants fan, LoL)

Anyway, I didn't have much time to preview your ROM while I was gone but I'll be getting to it very soon.  The first playthru I did went well;  I know you're looking for feedback for the batters, but I was curious to know what the different graphics on the field and with the scoreboard were about.

And don't worry,  I won't steal your ratings ;-)

Turd

Maui? Dude. Why'd you come back! What different graphics on the field? The dirt paths? I had those added a while ago. Gives it a modern feel.

I know you're not stealing ratings. If I was really worried I wouldn't have shared them.

Anyways, look at the numbers on the sheet as well as play tr game Nd let me know what ya Think.

beastietg

My mistake, Your ROM is fine.  I did something wrong to it. The different graphics I think were a glitch after I made a change to your preview ROM using your editor.  The "Game Over" black box on the scoreboard was shifted to the left and the lines on the field where the 1st and 3rd base coaches stand were glitched and showed X's.  It was strange, but when I opened the original preview ROM unedited it was just fine.

And so far the batters with the grounder hack that I've played with have all had ground ball base hits into the gaps.

More feedback coming soon...

Turd

Great. Looking forward to it. I'm sure that editor isn't capable of editing the grounder hack ROM and that's why it glitches.

beastietg

Yea, that's the conclusion I came to as well.  The changes in the ROM are not fully compatible with the editor.  No worries.

beastietg

Sorry,  Been busy looking for a new job, so I've had little time to give your ROM a full blown test run.  But from what I've played it feels and plays like it should.  I don't notice much of a difference with the grounder hack.  But maybe thats still because I haven't played enough.... More to come...

Aside from that, I put my personal player line-ups and stats on a .txt file if you wanna see it.  I don't have the pitcher ability and pitch speeds included in the .txt but the names, order and ERA are included.  Just curious to know what you think.
