Bummer. Need more power. Jack Clark's base running is maddening.

Shooty is Jewish?

I really could have used one of those beanies when I was losing my hair.

Wow, the Empire narrowly survive a scare. A loss to the Chilis and it would have been panic time.

That Chilis team is undoubtedly the worst roster in the league, but they're scrappy and they've got chemistry. I was impressed through 7 innings or so, but baserunning errors and defensive mistakes cost them. It's like they knew that the Empire had the better roster and let it get to their head late in the game.

fightonusc

One crappy inning did them in.

They might have the best pitching in the league.

For the Friday Night Fantasy game, we'll need to limit Backmn and Tudor/Fernando Mania to one hit, two the most for us to tip the odds in our favor.

Backman and Tudor: 1-5. Fortunately Strwby went 1-5. Exactly why we brought in Hurst for this game - Hurst matched up really well with the Chilis. Sutton would have gotten rocked by the Chili's and that's why we had to drop Sutton. Vader had our scouts run a lot of sim games to put us in the best possible situation to win.

There were a lot of double plays. I didn't keep score and write down other details, but will do so later.

The summoning ritual helped out - Baylor delivered.

Also coming out with the big sticks tonight: Donnie Baseball and Sweet Lou Whitkr. Donnie Baseball has been with The Empire every single season I've been an owner. He's our captain and he showed veteran leadership - refuse to lose with a 5/5 performance. And Whtkr with 2 bombs, fuck yeah. That rarely happens with him so we'll take his anomalous evening.

With all that said, that was a lousy performance by The Empire tonight. We need to put teams away when we have leads in low scoring games. The Force was with us today, especially team captain:

Every time through the order, I thought to myself, "Holy shit, there's a team that has Wally Backman batting second."

Word is that the team manager has lost a bunch of weight lately and is using that to inspire his players to show some plate discipline of their own.

I need jack Clark to stop getting thrown out trying to stretch singles into doubles. I think he's done it four time In two games. It's killing me.

Maybe let your team eat more than one grape before the game.

J.Clark's speed is 122. That kind of speed will get you nailed at 2B when hitting hard liners off the wall anywhere on the field, at 3B when going 1B to 3B if the ball is hit hard enough off the wall in LF, and will get a player forced or tagged out in various situations, as well as rarely avoid tag outs on rundowns. That speed is also good for a lot of hitting into double plays. Speed at 124 and below is a critical liability. I can't stand that kind of slow speed and I'll have to live with Brett's speed (124) and Pena's (122).

Here's an illustration. In the bottom of the 8th with Pena on 1B with 2 outs, Burlsn hit a gapper left-center which was a double. Pena didn't make it home because of his 122 speed. There were two outs and then Dayley popped out to end the 8th. So the score stood at 14-10 instead of 15-10. Speed at 130 maybe would have scored, but definitely 132 and above.

More on baserunning. The Empire hit into 3 double plays. Leonrd and E.Davis both hit into DP's although they hit the ball really hard at the SS to make it a fast catch and throw DP. Those guys won't get doubled up too often with Leo's 134 speed and E.Davis' 142. The second DP involving E.Davis resulted in a tag out at 3rd base when Donnie Baseball got nailed at 3B after a force out at second and a throw to 3B. That qualifies as my stat (X).

The Seymour Chili's had 3 X's and one DP. J.Clark registered an X when he got tagged out at 2B after a bullet single off the wall in right-center., and he hit into a clean 5-4-3 DP.

Baines (speed 122) registered an X when he was run down going back to 3B from home plate. Backmn's X came when DwEvns drilled a single off the LF wall. Backmn (speed 124) was on first and easily got tagged out at 3rd to end the 8th inning. In fact, those two stat X's happened consecutively and killed that inning.

The errors for both teams equalized each other. The poor speed for the Chili's contributed to 3 stat X's while the Empire had one stat X and to mention it again, 3 DP's.

The difference was the 6th inning. Down 8-7, Leo and Mtngly hit back-to-back doubles to even the ballgame. Then Baylor's spirit delivered a 2-run shot making it 10-8 for the Empire. E.Davis followed with another HR and the inning ended 11-8 for the Empire and that lead was never relinquished, but threatened. So with Baylor on the other side, we gave him the game ball! And J.Morris showed some guts today with a nice outing after his miserable outing last week. And Hurst showed he's Empire material on the bump.

Let me see what happened. I had to manually combine stats as the scoring system I use doesn't carry over players when they are traded.

Trade Announcement

(Imperial Center) — The Empire has reached a trade agreement with AOS today.

Brett (12/834/124) was traded for Garner (24/804/134).

Garner fits better into our system and we welcome Garner to The Empire. We are more than certain Garner shall thrive with the role he has embraced. Garner has given himself to the Dark Side. The Force is strong with this one.

May the Force bless The Empire.
