What is it about the yankees that makes them so easy to hate?
For me its the fans.  You never meet a yankee fan that admits he didnt pay attention to the team when they were sucking it up in the early 90s.  No, every fucking yankee fan loved donny baseball when they were growing up and still went to the games despite the fact that the bombers werent competative.  Couple that with their (yankee fans) braggart attitude and minimal understanding of the game and you get a mob of self assured bandwagoneers who are always talking about destiny and the mystique of pinstripes.  They can all suck mike mussina's little pink dick.

Baines

Derek Jeter doesn't help.  Fuckin flamer.

Baines may have hit a homer with Baines, yelled Baines and immediately changed into a Baines jersey.

You know who's the best? Baines...

dvldog

They are consistently good, and they don't have a likeable star.

Paul O'Neil ... nice guy in the booth but a real bitch at the plate.  Nothing was a fucking strike to him.   Always crying

Paul Oneill hasn't been likeable since he played for the Reds.

The Yankees have been so good for so long, that they have created an anti-fan base.  I think it comes down to the fact that they have ruined so many teams' chances in the postseason.  They're like the bully on the playground.

BeefMaster

It's the insane financial advantage (which is a problem with MLB's financial structure more than anything).  They're expected to win.  Bill Simmons put it best - rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for the house in blackjack.

MLB Payroll Stats

I'd like to believe that the Yankees are not good because of the money they spend, but it's hard to argue with these numbers.

The Red Sox are usually in the 2-spot here, so they shouldn't be a surprise.

Interesting numbers.

BeefMaster

Wow - the Yankees' third baseman's average salary is equivalent to 90% of Milwaukee's payroll.

I wonder who on the Marlins gets that extra $42.  And how does a guy making $500k a year bargain for an extra $42?

Im starting to hate the Red Sox more. Fucking annoying. Pedro, Manny.   It is kind of hard to hate any of the individual Yanks, except ARod.

dvldog

I think people would hate the Red Sox more if they won the World Series.

I've thought this as well, with similar thoughts about the Braves, who I also hate.  The Yanks generally seem like decent guys, except Sheffield, whose reputation as a dick isn't erased by a year in pinstripes.

At the game last night, ARod was such a prick.  After he caught a foul pop to end an inning, he pretended like he was going to throw the ball into the stands for a kid, then popped it back in his glove and gave a smug smile. Dick.  Then, when the Yanks were getting killed, he came out of the dugout and gave the #1 sign.  I wish DeNiro could have Juan Primo-ed him.

I loved Paulie.

Sheffield has done a lot for his reputation this year, at least in my eyes.  He's played hurt, said all the right things, and hit the cover off the ball.  When they signed him I was pissed, but he'd done a great job and he's been their only consistent threat.

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

Isn't Paul Oneill mildly retarded?  I'm just sayin' I don't know.

Yeah, he signed with the Yankess  :)

Seriously though, I was at a White Sox/Yankees game in April, there was a double hit by the Sox, can't remember exactly what happened, but the baserunner started for third because no one was close to covering second, then retreated to 2nd, but almost got thrown out at 2nd because Sheffield had run in from RF to cover 2nd.  The throw was just late, but I'm in the stands thinking, here's an all-star stud hitter, that just ran in from RF to cover 2B, I was impressed.  But I still hate the Yankees.

Check out Gammons' column today on ESPN.  Nothing but good things about Sheff coming from his team.
