Welcome back to PTI. Of course, the big sports news this week is the Fantasy RBI Baseball World Series. And the World Series is not going to feature either of the league's two marque teams. Instead, the series features two .500 teams in The OC and BeefMaster. Tony, the first question is this: is this Commissioner fightonusc's worst nightmare?

Are you kidding me? His worst nightmare is that the 7-11 runs out of Mickey's and he has to settle for OE to get bombed on every night. That being said, this isn't even close to being a problem. Everyone loves an underdog story, and here you've got both teams being underdogs going into the playoffs. What's not to like?

That's it right there: they're both underdogs. You need a bad guy to root against so you can root for the other team to beat them. There's no evil empire here, just two teams that are both in the same boat. That's the problem with parity - everyone's the same.

Look, there's star power all over this game! You've got the Cy Young winner and maybe the hottest hitter on The OC, and on the other side you've got big hitters like Potatoes and Gary Carter.

BUZZ!!!

Moving on...as I said, there are a lot of star players in this game. But usually, someone steps up to make a big contriobution that you don't suspect. Wilbon, who's going to be the unsung hero of this series?

I think that it's going to come down to the second starters. I really do. Doyle Alexander was incredible all season, and might have won the Cy Young if not for his teammate Doc Gooden. And Bruce Hurst looked really sharp at times against The Stiffs. Whichever one fo those two throws better is going to have a huge impact on the series.

So, you look at these line-ups, and you expect me to believe that out of all the players here, Doyle Alexander and Bruce Hurst are the two most important? Are you high? I mean, I understand that you're a little unstable, being an NHL fan and all, but come on!

Clearly, the unsung hero in this series is going to be Kirby Puckett. If he gets on base for George Bell, forget it, because Big George is going to drive him home.

If The OC's World Series hopes rest on Kirby Puckett, then they are in trouble...

BUZZ!

All right, quickly, Tony, and this is so simple that even you can figure out: your prediction for the series.

You've got the best starter, the best long reliever, and maybe the best hitter, all on one team. The only thing I'm shocked about is that The OC lost seven games in the regular season. This is a no-brainer: The OC in 5.

Well, no brains is right, like the fact that you aren't using your brain. Playoff series almost always come down to the relief pitching, and no one has been better than BeefMaster. If they're close in the late innings, McDowell and Garrelts will shut them down. BeefMaster in 6.

OK, I'm right, you're wrong. We'll see you tomorrow!

i believe that the best pitching shut down the best offense in fantasy RBI, so what chance does the 'master have against doc and alexander the great?  is he going to take his guys to the mayo clinic to get roided up for the series?  he better.

Gantry

As the only guy to vote for Gooden for MVP, I'm a big fan of his work.  But my gut feeling has been with the Beefmasters since the beginning, so the OC relievers will blow a few Gooden leads and Beef in 6...

Game Summary:

Dwight Gooden doesn't give opposing teams many opportunities, so when he does, it's a good idea to take advantage of it. BeefMaster learned the hard way what happens when you don't, as they squandered several opportunities against the Fantasy RBI League Cy Young winner. Combine that with one bad inning by starter Jimmy Key, and it added up on Tuesday to a 14-4, six-inning rout by the host OC in Game 1 of the World Series.

Gooden gave up three earned runs in six innings to pick up the victory, despite giving up an usually high 13 hits. However, poor baserunning by BeefMaster and some timely fielding helped Gooden keep BeeMaster from breaking out any big innings.

Meanwhile, The OC scored 6 runs in the bottom of the third to break open a 3-3 game, highlighted by Don Mattingly's three-run homer. George Bell lead The OC with a 5-for-5 day, including two home runs and three RBI. Rich Gedman and Mattingly each also homered and drove in three.

Don Baylor provided a rare offensive highlight for BeefMaster with a two-run homer in the first inning.

Sorry that this has been dragging on, but I've been pretty sick this week, and I haven't had much free time because of it. It'll get done next week, I promise...

Funny, when I'm sick, I usually suddenly have nothing but free time.  A winner is you.

Game Summary:

The OC got the type of performance out of Doc Gooden that they expected. However, few people expected Jimmy Key to match Gooden pitch-for-pitch, and even fewer would have expected Doyle Alexander to melt down as badly as he did. BeefMaster feasted off of The OC's long reliever to run away with a 15-3, seven-inng rout on Tuesday to even the Fantasy World Series at 1-1 as it moves to BeefMaster Stadium for three games.

Both Key and Gooden gave up two earned runs over four innings of work. However, BeefMaster was able to hammer Alexander for 11 earned runs in three innings. Meanwhile, Bruce Hurst was impressive for BeefMaster in relief, giving up one unearned run over the final three innings.

Glenn Davis continued his postseason power surge for BeefMaster, hitting three home runs as part of a 4-for-6 day with four runs and six RBI. Reggie Jackson and Don Baylor added home runs for BeefMaster, while both Jackson and Dick Schofield drove in three.

BeefMaster completely held The OC's bats in check, holding them to no home runs and 11 hits total for the game. Mike Schmidt had both of The OC's RBI with a two-run single in the first.
