Back in high school, we used a 16 player bracket, double elimination. We played about 9 tourneys and I won 7 of em. We would even have a qualification tourney for the others who battled for the 16 spot. We used a anything goes format. No rules on teams used, and no rules on limiting just one starting pitching a game. I always used the Giants, and I consistently beat either NA or AM in the finals.
I am desperate for a game. I know this may not sound humble, but give me the Giants and I will give you hell. End of stroy and lights out.

I never played tournaments back in the day, if we had multiple people playing it was just winner stays, I think you need to have more than 2 friends to have a tournament.

Nah, my buddy and I use to take four teams apiece and play our own tourney. We had fun. It was fun. Fun it was.

I've never heard of someone having so much loyalty to the Giants.   How are you so effective with them?  The pitching top to bottom blows ass, and the team's best hitter, Will Clark, underachieves more than Kirby Puckett.   Chili Davis is a money player though in that 7th spot.
How many at bats do you typically give Uribe before sending his ass to the showers?
Jim Lindeman is Jesus in baseball cleats

TbT

the g-men are under-rated in my book.  nice power most all the way thru the line-up.  and they have 2 very solid starters.  i would rather face ny or min ahead of sf anyday.

Agreed with TBT - I like the SF pitching and they provide a good chunk of pop.  How can you say that Krukow and Garrelts blow ass?  If you like curve, you gotta love Krukow.  If you like speed, you gotta like Garrelts...

Attezzobal

Agreed with everyone. San Fran's SP's are probably the best in RBI (pound for pound, i.e. not Blyleven), and they've got plenty of pop. Whenever I face them I tend to worry to much about getting around Candy, The Thrill and Chili that I end up getting beat by LEE-a-Nard and Mitchell.

The Geeants have always been the "sleeper" team in my house.    They're always good for an upset of the Bo, Cali or Na.  They've got power up and down the lineup and their pitching is above average, especially Krukow.  And to top it all off, they've got the dreamy Chili Davis, hands down the most dangerous 7 hitter in the game.

It starts with pitching. Their starters have wicked movement. Reshl has the most movement but his movement is not as sharp as Krukows. Krukow has more bite. Garrelts can throw hard and is only effective for 3-4 battes before he slows down. Corners is a must with Garrelts cause his movement suck. Robinson has good movement as well as good velocity. I have a certain style of pitching with my starters. I have an effective plan for Righties and for lefties. It's all about deception. I will start a thread on that when I get back to Sweden.
As far as the hitting goes, Uribe never plays for me. He is a bum. In his place I usually go with Aldrete, and occasionally Speir. In the 8 hole, I put in Spillman. Thompson is also a bum. But hey, the Giants do not have overwhelming power, but they do hit gappers and can get the ball out of the park. Just not in a convincing fashion like. They are a feisty lineup, not the best, but combined with my style of pitching, my Giants are always in Games. And they do get hot at times. Their speed is below or at avg. Leonard and Chili have good speed as well as power.

Six bucks and my left nuts says you are a 1 SP player, no?  SF's overall rating does decline some in the instance of 1 SP/game.  It's just too easy to take take take when Kruk/Big D are on the mound...

Also, I'd beat that 90% of those who consider themselves to be serious rbi players don't let Uribe see 1 pitch...

They're still awfully good playing with just 1SP.

With a guy like Uribe, I tend to leave him in for an at bat and just foul some off and take some pitches, may as well save the PHers for late in the game when a pitcher gets tired.

I say they're clearly in the 2nd tier when playing 1 SP style.  When playing 2 SP, they're probably a notch above Ca.

I find this, in the matter of Jose Uribe, to be a waste of time because there are enough other hitters in this line up that can accomplish this, so why employ this strategy the spot before mashers Mitchell, Leonard, Candyman, and Clark?

our latest deal last winter/spring was with 4 guys and we draft teams, so we each had 2...then randomly place them in a bracket and do best of 3 (1sp).

however since were shaivg down to 3 guys, im suggested a cotut style round robin, where we each have 2 best of 3 series against everyone....then maybe the 2 guys with top records face off in a best of 5.

Sounds cool. I never played that 1sp shit. Took away the quality of play. Too much offense. Too many fucks taking pitches the whole game. I mean, it was not even baseball if you think about it.

1SP really doesn't lead to too much offense, IF you know how to pitch.

All the incredible pitching performances from myself and OctoFranco (perfect games, 1 hitters, shutouts, 33 consecutive scoreless innings) have all come about using the no reset format. You can get guys out just as easily without throwing fast or slow as you can constantly throwing fast or slow. You just gotta know how to pitch.

JoeDirt and I would play a 4 week season consisting of 8 teams.  I get 4 and he gets 4.  1 starter and both relievers was most common.  We would usually put stips on better teams or make requirements that lesser teams get more pitchers to use or certain batters must get faced.  If they are walked then you lose $ and you are a chicken for not having the balls to face the batter.  So in the end we had 8 fairly even teams and had good competition all the way through the end.  We would keep stats such as HR, RBI, W-L, S, etc... for the entire 4 week season.  We would always play for cash.  Good times!

we've always played anything goes more or less...use whomever you want, whenever you want...no restrictions, pitch how you like....

Sure, you dont get alot of ridiculous scores, but it always makes for the most competetive atmosphere

Our touneys  in high school started out with players bringing 5 bucks to contribute to the pot. But after I won tourney after tourney, the grew tired of paying me money to wax them. So that ended, but whoever the host was of the tourney, he would order mucho food like bufffet style eats. We also had names for our home turf tv screen. My field name was called East Bay Stadium, cause my room was located on the east end next to my swimming pool. The TV was next to the window, so the east end of the pool was visible when we played. I also had West Bay Stadium in the living room, with the pool as the backdrop behind the french sliding doors.  My rival's (buddy's) stadium was called the Palace. He lived in a palace of a house, and he had some fancy wood frame TV.
