I had an inside the park homerun against the computer with bruce hurst last night, and it made me wonder if anyone has ever hit one out with a pitcher.  I don't recall ever doing it in the early days of my RBI career.

From the FAQ http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml#PITCHERHR

Is it possible to hit a home run with the pitcher?

Apparently, it is. I have received a couple emails and read bulletin board messages confirming the pitcher homer. In every case I've read, the ball is lined down the left/right field line and goes through the top of the wall. Most of these cases involved all-star pitchers (twice by Sutcliffe, once with Righetti), though I doubt they are any more powerful than regular pitchers. That being said, nobody I know personally has ever hit a homer with the pitcher.

I have recieved a few emails on this subject (probably more since the faq), but I would like to hear other people's RBI stories.  Perhaps I think too highly of myself, but I sill have  a hard time accepting this is possible given all the years/games we've played.  I know these people aren't lying, but I want my own pitcher homer dammit...

I have never even heard of anyone ever hitting a homer with a pitcher.  Personally, I don't think it is possible.  Like Gantry, I have played thousands of games and it hasn't happened yet.

Dill and I have noticed that Nolan and the Rocket have the most pop.  Nolan has come very close a few times.  They always seem to make decent contact at least.

while it is very possible to hit an inside the park dinger against the computer,(who field groundballs like they are playing death) until i see it done with my own eyes or someone with credibility attests to seeing it done i am also of the opinion that it is impossible.  if it did happen, it would have to be the one that goes through the fence at the foul pole.

It's strange that none of the hardcore players here have hit a dinger, but I still have to believe that all those people weren't lying...

One thing I noticed over the weekend is that right-handed pitchers hit balls much further when a lefty is on the mound.  Perhaps that is the key - lefty pitcher on the mound and a righty pitcher at the plate...

that might be the secret   yet is is odd that you guys and us out here have been playing forever and have yet to witness it... still doesnt mean its impossible   just rbi folk lore.

Gantry, I sort of have the same opinion as you do about the pitcher stroke.  I've always thought a pitcher had a better chance to homer if he got pitched to inside.  The inside pitch to the pitcher so rarely happens when we play, but when it does I've always noticed more stroke...

Perhaps it's time to take one for the team and start throwing some inside.  Of course the retirement rule would have to be eliminated, but I'm game...

yeah... i would think that we should do a case study and throw puss inside pitches to the pitchers to see if they get lucky and hit one through the wall.

I also have never seen a pitcher hit one in the stands, but when we play the only person who ever takes a decent swing with the pitcher is the computer.  But i have seen them get close to making it over.  I guess its just one of those rbi mysteries that makes the game still fun  to play after 15 years.

he must have started in the womb.   hey greg what do you think about the case study to see if we can get a pitcher to hit a homerun?

I was firing to Lipitz inside last time we played and he was defintiely hitting them higher and further, though none were near homer level.  I think I'm gonna have to break out the big stick with Donnie Sutton and get somebody retired!!

The pitcher homer will happen for us.  Oh yes, it will happen...

a positve attitude is the beginning...   i havent had a chance to begin the case study yet for i have no competition at the moment.  once he returns, we will test the hypothesis.

Let me throw this out there too...

I just don't think the pitcher hit will happen, UNLESS it's inside (like we have already said), AND the pitch is a fastball.  That adds a whole lot of distance to the hit.  The thing is...so rarely does a pitcher get a fastball thrown his way.  It just doesn't happen.  Maybe against the computer opponent, though.

so you think it has to be an inside fastball if the pitcher is going to hit one out.  that sounds like a theory that needs to  be tested out.

I am new to this site, but god almighty, it is the greatest thing I have e're seen....quite possibly the most professional and, dammit ill say it, vital webiste around....me and my roomate todd have played almost everyday for the last year...most of the time 2 or 3 seven game series....all resulting in some sort of argument/celebration....but i thank you guys for putting this together...

anyhoo....i have once, and only once, hit a homer with a pitcher...it was wille hernandez of the detriot tigers...it was right down the line and through the wall....qutie cheap...but a homer nonetheless....and speaking of monumental homers, me and todd have a rule that if anyone hits a homer with ozzie smith, the other has to buy him a cd....thank you again for this site...ill write often...Bban
