I don't know if there's any way to tell which it is, unless they changed the scoreboard slightly between versions.  As far as I know, the in-game graphics were identical, and the only gameplay difference I can think of is that RBI 3 allows you to move slightly closer to the plate when batting, so you'd need to see player names/stats in order to tell the difference (assuming you weren't playing one of the five teams that have the same names/stats in both versions, the Tengen Team and the '89 playoff teams).

Joe Posnanski is doing a "Things we'll never see again" series for MLB.com, starting with a piece on Nolan Ryan.

It includes some pretty incredible statistics, including the fact that if you combine the THREE active pitching leaders in career walks, it's still short of Ryan's career total.

I haven't read much of anything from Posnanski since the Paterno bullshit. Which sucks because he's a terrific writer and a lot of fun.

I just wiped my ass then smelled the toilet paper.  What's wrong with me?

Tim Raines was at bat when Dravecky broke his arm so that kinda counts as RBI imo

This would make for a good RBI themed photoshop

Not a ton of RBIers in this pack, but still a terrific recurring Deadspin feature.

1990 Topps, including two RBIers (I think) and some Spanky LaVallierre discussion, and it was good even though neither they nor I remembered the first two or three guys in the pack.

Gantry

Potsie stopped by today as the whole dee-nee crew is hanging out in a couple hours.  We just had a doozie with Mn vs the Mets, Potsie wins it 14-12 thanks in part to a home run by STEVE LOMBARDOZZI.  We kept our original lineup in the first run through and he hit a dinger.  Took him out the next AB, but 1-1 with one home qualifies for the RBI Records page, congrats Pots!

I went 4-4 with 4 dingers with Darryl Strawberry but it wasn't enough.

Two RBIers in this week's pack, Doug DeCinces and Gantry's personal savior HARRY SPILMAN.

I don't think I'd ever heard DeCinces' name said out loud before, and they did not pronounce the "s", which surprised me.

I never heard the S pronounced at any time back in the day.
