Hey guys- I'm back.  Sorry for the absence.  RBI goes in waves for me... I'll play every night for weeks and then stop for a few months.  Anyway, my game is in prime form right now.  Might there be another NYC tourney soon?  I almost threw a non-no with Bertus the other day, which brings up an interesting discussion I will start on a new thread.

Definitely one of the 5 most overrated returns from a long absense.

Suck it Nacho. Let's play some RBI.  Where do you live?

It seems to me like you can't call Puckett overrated anymore because everyone seems to agree that Puckett isn't all that.  I happen to think that in these message boards he has built up a reputation for being no good, and that reputation has outgrown itself.  Basically everyone talks now like he's Spike Owens or something, and me personally, I think Puckett is still a solid hitter on the game, he's just not as good as the stats on the game suggest he should be.  Anyways, my five most overrated are:

1. Don Mattingly
2. Will Clark
3. Dwight Evans
4. Mike Schmidt
5. DDincs...no one thinks he's that good really anyways, but with his stats he should be producing more.  He always sucks for me.
2006 Detroit Tigers...best team ever?

Your top two most overrated are two of my favorite players in the game, especially Will Clark, he always produces for me.

the dude either has some high float or a mess between the cheeks.

lancemeister2006

Yeah, that's why I put Mattingly and Clark as one-two on my list...because everyone I know says they love them, whereas with me all I ever hit is hard grounders or line drives to the first basemen.  It's all mental I think, but it doesn't change the fact that I can't hit with either of them.

Gantry

Welcome Lance!  I like the way he assessed the situation, go with "overrated" as in the eyes of the RBI public.  Well played...

Thinking of it in that regard, Gantry's overrated list

1) Robby Thompson - The fact that half the RBI public still starts him warrants this spot, makes me sick to my fucking stomach.

2) Chet Lemon - Not terribly different than Puckett and still borderline better than Bergman in straight pitch.

3) Tony Armas - Has his moments, but in my book far from a top5 player.  Too many groundouts and too lofty of a rep.

4) Ozzie Smith - Again, absolute dogshit yet people keep him in and expect a single and stolen base everytime.  Take away 6 speed points and he's the worst non-Santana starter in RBI.  You can argue for Coleman here as well, but he's twice the player Smith is.

5) Cal Ripken - Barely worth starting, and probably wouldn't be if AL had Detroit's or Boston's bench.

lancemeister2006

You're right, I forgot about Ripken, he sucks.  And even with the AL's weak bench, I'e benched Ripken several times before.

Wow- strong opinions from our leader Gantry (who is ignoring my email pleading to increase my post count because this is my second stint so I have way more than 300 posts).

I love the Bobby Thompson call.  He should never play, especially with the depth on Roger Craig's bench.  I agree with the ozfest assessment as well.

Armas has a VERY lofty reputation but his power is absurd.

I heavily disagree with Chester being overrated.  He completes the best 1-6 in the game (Maddog in 5 slot)

Will Clark
Ripken
Schimdt
Santana - he's overated because he's in the game

You gotta earn those posts.  There is no post inflation on Dee-Nee.

I think I earned them.  I seem to remember posting a lot, and then after a long hiatus I came back- forgot my user log in and had gantry set me up a new one so my posts were reset to zero.  Haven't heard from Gantry yet on this.  Gantry is this the way you remember it?  I know you helped me reset my password at least.  Will you at least grant me that?  Admit I got my password reset.  (DeNiro in Casino to local politican during hearing)

I like to put Madlock in for Herndon against lefties and Sheridan against righties.  I find that gives me the best of both worlds most times.  Both are solid pinch hitters and capable of playing and producing for the entire game too.
