I'm back....

Lips is a big fan of Clemens at the plate, he can get the hits on occasion.  The only two pitchers I find to be better than the comp are Don Sutton and The Doctor.  Nobody else rings a bell for being above-average, at least for me...

for me, all pitchers are weak and the chances of getting a hit are the same... slim and none and slim just left.

when they do get one it is almost always with nobody on... however those rare occurances where they do get an rbi are satisfying.

i very well may be repeating myself here...but doyle alexander is the best hitting pitcher in the game, followed up by his teamate and clubhouse leader jack morris....i also hit very well with mike witt...on occasion others pop a hit here or there...but those three can hit....

i have said this before but i dont think there is any noticable difference between pitchers when it comes to their hitting.

Hell yes there is a noticeable difference.  Doyle is definitely a top 4 hitting pitcher, along with Nolan, the Rocket, and the newly crowned "best hitting pitcher", British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith.  Some of our thought process on who should start a game depends on the pitchers' ability to hit because our games are so close.  A timely pitcher hit could make the difference (see previous post on Davey Boy's accomplishment).

if you are so sure that there is a difference,  why dont you start keeping track...

i will do the same and will report back later.

It would be interesting to break out some scientific pitcher analysis, but we're too lazy for that.  Like I said, I think Don Sutton is the best hitting pitcher in the game, though I have no proof...

i am going to play statistician for a couple of weeks...  i will monitor each hurler's achievements at the plate and will relay the results to the forum.

i hit a bunt triple w/ doug corbett once. ha ha.

i've never even had a pitcher hit it within an inch of the wall on the fly before. i haven't played rbi nearly as much as some of you guys, but i've never come close to seeing it happen.

if anyone cares, in later versions of rbi, jason grimsley hit a fly ball of the wall for me in rbi 3, and dan pleasc hit one into the seats in one of the sega genesis games. however, in the classic original version, no hr's by the moundsmen.

Whether there are pitchers that are better hitters than other pitchers, i really dont care.  For me Sullivan or Davidson is better than taking a chance on a pitcher.  At least Sullivan has the pinch hitter luck working for him.  Pinch hitters always have one good hit in them.

i would have to agree with you burnzky,  pinch hitters have the mojo going for them especially in their first swing... and it dwindles after each successive swing.
wasnt it sullivan who took you deep the other night burnzky?

Ya sullivan has taken me deep a couple times lately.  But i think his stats caused me to go easy on him.

id rather use a pitcher than sullivan....sullivan is a piece of garbola....not a real big fan....and nothing is sweeter than a dinkfuck through the left side by a pitcher that you just cant get to

i used to share your opinion bban...  however, recently i realized that while sully is not gonna get the job done regularly, there are those few occasions where he come up big.  there is no occasion where a pitcher has done that.

ill agree that a pitcher is not going to come up big usually....but with the way we play (you have to throw down the middle to the pitcher), there is a better chance of a dink single with the pithcers than by swinging and mising with sullivan

we dont have any rule mandating slop to pitchers.  however, i usually throw puss to them in order to save my pitcher's arm.  as long as you know that you will get something easy to hit, i would probably stick with the pitcher rather than use sullivan.

much like the pheonix rising from the sand, sullivan has had a rebirth...ill take you through it

game two, boston vs detroit....t goes up two runs going into the 9th....he brings in king, i tell him that i own king, he scoffs at me and goes at me anyways....tony armas, base hit to left....he grooves one down the middle to sullivan, mocking my choice to put him in, single to the gap in left, runner to third.....burks strikes out, then with two strikes, dave henderson takes one deep to left,a three run homer to win the game...

game five....the chowds up in the series 3-1, but reeling from a tiger game 4 victory and a two run lead in the seventh for the boys from detroit....clemens has pitched well, but once again, im feeling something...so i put in sullivan, with two on, and once again he comes through...this time with a three run bomb into the left center bleachers...puts the chowds on top....that was followed by an ellis burks homerun, his second shot of the game and the tigers went on to win the game and the series...the man may have just saved his career

Sullivan can bring it, he just needs the proper settings.  I bet he's not too high on t's list right now...

no...t is not a huge fan....and after the hysteria of last nights games ended, i still realized that he is 3-207 for me all time, so hes not that great...but he did have his moment in the sun for me

bumpst for an old school thread.   ive read a shit ton of old, old rbi posts, and this one had all the critical old school dee-nee'ers. Gwynn3, bban, Gpines, Dill, Burnzsky....and i think there was another regular that ive read a ton of posts by.

these guys were tearing it up long before we came into the fold.  long live thier early pioneering efforts that got the post counts climbing in the early stages.

its funny to read all the old myths and things they didnt have concrete facts about.  nightwulf is the man.
